Facilitator: Dr. Kim Jaxon
Using the principles of Connected Learning, particularly the framework of openly networked communities, this workshop will highlight ways to open our classrooms and make connections to communities outside classroom walls. Dr. Jaxon will share some of the work she has done connecting her future teachers with middle school students through book clubs, the ways she invites her students to make their work public, and the ways she connects her students to people and communities they hope to join. The examples are meant to spur conversation about small moves, or perhaps even epic moves, educators can make to connect classrooms, students, and educators. Participants can expect opportunities to work through their own assignments or class structures that may lend themselves to an open and networked framework.
